Covington, Ind. - Mrs. Ruth M. Kieran, 59, of 522 Third St., died at 9:50 pm yesterday (Aug. 17, 1968) at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville where she had been a patient since July 10. She had been in ill health since April. Born Feb. 13, 1909, in Covington, she was the daughter of Joseph W. and Isa Sprankle McMahon. She was married in Dana, Ind., Oct. 30, 1937, to Robert L. Kieran, who survives. Also surviving are a son, William J. Kieran, Springfield, Va.; several cousins and an aunt, Mrs. Isabella Schifley, Scottsdale, Ariz. Donald Vernon will officiate with burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Covington. Mrs. Kieran was a life resident of Covington and was graduated from Covington High. She was a retired employee of the General Electric Co., in Danville, where she was a member of the GE club. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and Richard Henry Lee Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. She also was past regent of Psi Iota Xi, Gamma Epsilon chapter. The body is at the Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in Covington, where friends will be received after 7 pm Monday and Tuesday afternoon and evening. Rosary will be at 7:30 pm Tuesday.

Covington - Mrs. Ruth McMahon Kieran, lifelong resident of the Covington community, died at 9:50 pm Saturday in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Danville, Ill. Mrs. McMahon, 59, had been in failing health since April and was hospitalized on July 10. Her husband, Robert Kieran, survives. The couple were married on Oct. 30, 1937. The deceased had been employed by General Electric of Danville for over 20 years. She was a member of the firm's DanGe Club. She held membership in the Richard Henry Lee Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was the immediate past regent of that group. In addition, she held membership in Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Xi Iota Xi of Covington. Mrs. McMahon was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church at Covington. Born on Feb. 13, 1909 she was the daughter of Joseph W. "Farmer" and Isa Sprangle McMahon. Surviving are a son, William of Springfield, Va.; an aunt, Isabelle Scheisly of Scottsdale, Ariz., and several cousins. Services are set for 10:30 am Wednesday in St. Joseph's with Rev. Donald Vernon officiating. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm Tuesday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home and friends may call Tuesday afternoon and evening. -- typed by Barbara B
