West Lebanon, Ind. - Elonzo "Lon" Kidwell, 91, a life resident of West Lebanon, died at 1:45 p.m. Friday (June 4, 1971) at his residence. He had been in failing health five years. He was born in West Lebanon on June 18, 1879, the son of John M. and Charity Lowe Kidwell. He married Helena "Lena" Haptonstall on Feb. 14, 1907 in Williamsport. He was a self-employed contractor and specialized in ditching and house moving for several years. On their wedding anniversary last February, Mr. Kidwell said, "I dug ditches-I did a good job of it-I earned my pay." They were married the day after the Warren County Courthouse burned, and it was still smoldering on their wedding day. Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Eulah Ford of Hammond and Mrs. Rosella Woodrum of Henning, Ill.; a son, Ray of West Lebanon; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A son, a daughter and nine brothers and sisters preceded him in death. Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the DeSutter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harold Fogle officiating. Burial will be in West Lebanon Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Sunday. -- typed by Barbara B
