Mellott - Mrs. Eureka Keyt, 102 year old former resident of the Mellott community died suddenly at 1 p.m. Thursday in Minneapolis. Mrs. Keyt, who celebrated her 102 birthday last June 23, had been in good health despite her advanced age. On her 99th and 100th birthdays Mrs. Keyt returned to Mellott and was honored at a public celebration. She returned to the community nearly every year after moving away to celebrate her birthdays and visit friends. She was born in 1860 on a farm about two miles northeast of Mellott, on the McClure homestead, which now is the residence of Reed Rice and family. She was the daughter of James and Phoebe Dagger McClure. Her parents came to Richland Township in 1827, and she was the last survivor of the old settlers who came to this area to make their home along Coal Creek. Mrs. Keyt married Byron Keyt . In 1908 Mr. and Mrs. Byron Keyt moved with their family from this community to Lakeview, Mich. Mr Keyt died in 1924. The past 10 years Mrs. Keyt made her home in Minneapolis with a son, Frank Keyt , who is a retired salesman. An active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, she was a DAR "original granddaughter." Mrs. Keyt joined the DAR in 1924. She attended church regularly until reaching an advanced age. Relatives said she reluctantly quit attending church because she was unable to climb steps. Her olny survivors are the son with whom she made her home and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sons, Charles, Elmer and Clarence. Clarence was killed June 6, 1903 at the age of 5. The lad was attending a horse show here when he ran in front of horses and was trampled to death. Funeral services will be conducted in Minneapolis. The body will be brought to Richland Township for burial in the Newtown Cemetery
