Waynetown - Mrs. Evelyn Keys, 72, a former resident of the Waynetown area died at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday in the Westbrook Nursing Home in Crawfordsville after being ill several years. She was born Dec 25, 1886 in Covington. Her parents were Isaiah and Arminta Shreeves McElwee. On Oct 26, 1910, she was married to Clarence Keys in Covington. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in October of 1960. She has been in the nursing home since 1957 and taught school at Hoopston, Illinois for many years before her marriage. She was one of a family of eight children raised at the Soldiers and Sailors Orphan Home in Knightstown. She is survived by her husband of Rt 4; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Biggs of Rt 4 and Mrs. Thelma Davis of Waynetown; two sons, Alfred Keys of Hammond and Earl Keyes (sic) of Lansing, Ill; a sister, Mrs. Emma Gamble of El Monte, Calif; two brothers, John McElwee of Covington and Frank McElwee of Rockville; 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown, Rev. Lewis Poore will officiate. Burial will be in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
