Newtown-John G. Kerr, a Wabash College graduate and former resident of Newtown, died Friday at 8:45 a.m. at Lakeview Hospital in Danville, Ill., following a heart attack. He had been ill about a year. He was born in Newtown Oct. 13, 1890, the son of Charles and Edith Gray Kerr. He was married to Phyllis Fertich in 1913, the year he was graduated from Wabash. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Danville Kiwanis Club. He had lived in Danville since 1928. Surviving are the wife; a son, Dr. John A. Kerr of Mesa, Ariz.; two daughters, Mrs. Janice Dixon of Champaign, Ill., and Mrs. June Nidiffer of Galveston, Tex.; a sister, Mrs. Carl Quiggle of Newtown; a foster sister, Mrs. Edith Witt of Francesville; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be at the Pape Memorial Home in Danville Sunday at 1:30 p.m., Rev. Ralph Smith officiating. Burial will be in Newtown Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.

A brother (Ira who passed at 25 years 5 months 18 days this same year on 23 Nov) of the late J.G. Kerr came from Fountain County last week and took back with him starting on the Sunday morning train, the remains of his brother for permanent burial in the Kerr’s family cemetery near Newtown in Fountain County. ~~~transcribed by kbz
