John H. "Jack" KELLY, 83 for 25 years a merchant policeman in this city died at 4:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at his home, 608 S Green St of complication so fold age. Although his most recent illness was only of two weeks duration, Mr. Kelly had been in failing health for 7 years. His illness arising from a broken ankle sustained when he fell on an icy street while engaged in his work as merchant policeman. This injury terminated his city as a policeman. While he was employed as a night watchman, Mr. Kelly was known as a courteous and efficient official. During the 25 years he was engaged in this work he was rarely absent from his post of duty. John H. Kelly was born in Limerick Co Ireland March 6, 1847, son of John and Cathrine Downs Kelly. When a year old he moved with his parents to Fountain county where he grew to manhood. In 1889 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Ruddle. He lived in this city for 50 years and was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church. Surviving are his widow, one daughter Mrs. Harry Everett of Indianapolis; one sister, Mrs. Catherine Thompson of Crawfordsville and four nieces. One brother died May 1930. Funeral services will be held at St. Bernard's Church Thursday morning at 9 with Rev. William Sullivan in charge; burial in Calvary. - kbz
