Howard Haze Kelley, 78, Cayuga, died at 10 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 1989 at his home. He had been in failing health the past two years.
He was born Feb. 12, 1911 in Potomac, Ill., the son of Jesse James and Carrie Allen Kelley. He was married Sept. 2, 1939 in Williamsport to Dorothy Day, who survives.
He had last worked as a carpenter. He retired as town superintendent in 1972. He was a former town board member and past president. He was a salesman for Clark Chevrolet and also worked in the body shop. He was a former owner of a floral shop in Cayuga.
He was a member of the Cayuga Christian Church, Cayuga Masonic Lodge 584 and past Master, Scottish Rite of Danville, Cayuga Order of Eastern Star and a past patron, White Shrine of Jerusalem of Danville and Carpenters Local 269 of Danville.
He was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed all other sports, fishing and hooking rugs.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Margolita K., Route, Cayuga; three sons, Donald E. Kelley, Hillsdale; Kenneth W. Kendall, Springfield, Mo., and Donald A. Kendall, Attica; a grandson, John K. Kelley, Hermitage, Tenn., and four other grandchildren; a brother, Gilbert, Fort Lupton, Colo.; three sisters, Bertha Lynn, Belle Rive, Ill.; Arlene Strauser, Montezuma, and Pearl Payne, Portage, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, a sister and a brother.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at DeVerter Brothers Funeral Home, Cayuga, with the Rev. Richard Dike officiating. Burial will be in Thomas Cemetery, Newport.
