KELL, Martha Newnum

Martha Ellen Kell was born February 13 1854, at old Harveysburg, Ind., the daughter of William and Anna Newnum. She grew to womanhood here, attending school and church at the Corey school on her father's farm. She was united with the New Light Christian congregation at that place while quite young. She was married to John Patterson, December 2 1877, who died December 31 1878, leaving the widow and one small daughter. On October 20, 1881, she was united in marriage to John Kell. To this union was born one son and two daughters, the son and one daughter preceding her in death. John Kell died January 11 1915. She leaves to mourn her passing two daughters, Mrs. R. H. Meade, near Covington, and Mrs. E. E. Roberts, of Indianapolis; three step children, Ed Kell of Danville, Ill., Mrs. W. L. Roberts of Indianapolis, and Miss Alice Patterson, of St. Petersburg, Fla; one grandson, T. C. Roberts, of Indianapolis and one great granddaughter, Mrs. John Gallagher of Indianapolis. Mrs. Kell passed away December 19 1940, at the home of her daughter near Covington, after nearly four years illness, at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 6 days. Services were held in the Parham funeral home at 1:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Rev. Charles E. Howard of Sterling, officiated. Interment was made in the Rockfield Cemetery.
