KEIFFER, William
Source: Thursday, Aug. 15, 1895 Warren Republican
This young man (William) was born December 8th, 1860 in Berks County, Penn., near Reading, his parents being Thomas and Mary Keiffer. He was the eldest of six children—two daughters and four sons. In 1867 his parents with their family of sons and daughters moved to Indiana, locating in Warren County, where Mr. Keiffer Senior, purchased what was generally known as the “old poor farm.” The father some years since died, leaving the charge of the farm to the son now gone, who showed from the first a ready genius for successful management and the affairs of the field and home prospered under his industrious and frugal hand. When a child in the Pennsylvania home, he was baptized into the Lutheran Church, of which his parents were strict members. All the children except one are single, the married child being Mrs. Eliza Hedrick, who lives in Neoska County near Chenute, Kansas, who arrived in season to attend her brother’s funeral. William died on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 30th, 1895, by drowning in the Wabash River, the body being recovered 2 hours after, within ten feet of where he went down. He was 34 years, 7 months and 22 days of age. The funeral services were conducted at the residence of the family in Liberty Township on Thursday at 10 o’clock a.m., Rev. Wm Wilmer officiating; interment in Hillside at this place. The pallbearers were: Tilman Owen, Martin Houpt, Wm Hamilton, Thomas Johnson, Al McCabe, Wm Marlatt and George Pierce. -s
