John V. Jordan, 71, of Rt. 1, Williamsport, died early Saturday morning in Lake View Hospital in Danville, Ill. He had been seriously ill about a week. Mr. Jordan was born at Marshfield in Warren County and was a life resident of the county. He was a retired farmer and a World War I veteran, In 1929-30-31 he served in Williamsport as Town Marshal and was elected Sheriff of Warren County in 1931, serving two terms in that capacity. He married Mabel Allen in 1920 and they had two sons, Max Jordan, now serving as Town Marshal; and Porter Jordan of Rt. 1, West Lebanon. There are two daughters surviving, Mrs. LaVone Garrison, Rt. 2, Williamsport and Mrs. Marlene Wesley of Rt. 4, Attica. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Jordan was a member of the Galloway Chapel Church. Services were held in Crowmer-Siddens Chapel at 2 p.m. Monday in Williamsport. Burial was in West Lebanon Cemetery. Rev. WILLIAMSPORT, Ind. (CNS) – John V. Jordan, 71, sheriff of Warren County, Ind., for two terms in the 1930s, died at Lake View Memorial Hospital, Danville early today (Jan. 18, 1969). He had been ill a week. Mr. Jordan, of Williamsport Route 2, was Williamsport town marshal from 1929 to 1931. He was first elected sheriff in 1931. He was born June 19, 1897, in Warren County near Marshfield, a son of Miles and Martha Lape Jordan, He was married to Mable Allen, April 2, 1920, at Danville. She survives. A veteran of World War I, Mr. Jordan was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Galloway Chapel Church. He is survived by two sons, Max of Williamsport and Porter of West Lebanon Route 1; two daughters, Mrs. LaVone Garrison of Williamsport Route 2 and Mrs. Marlene Wesley of Attica Route 4; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Crowmer & Siddens Funeral Home, Williamsport, with the Rev. Theodore Simonton officiating. Burial will be in West Lebanon Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home 6-9 p.m. tomorrow. – jlr
