Russell A. Jones, 69, Newtown, died at the VA Medical Center, Indianapolis, Thursday, Aug. 28, at 5 a.m. He had been ill since February 1985. He was born near Elizabethtown, Ky., Feb. 1, 1917, the son of Marion and Cora Atcher Jones. He attended school in Newtown and Wingate. He formerly resided in Montgomery County, near Wingate and had lived in Newtown for many years. He had worked at Alcoa Aluminum and National Homes, both in Lafayette, and had worked in lawn maintenance in Newtown. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army and was a charter member of American Legion Post 394, Newtown, and a former member of VFW Post 3318, Attica. Surviving are two brothers, James Frank Jones, Attica, and Jesse L. Jones, Newtown; three sisters, Mrs. Norman (Mona) Patton, Winter Park, Fla.; Mrs. Beulah Barnhart, Indianapolis, and Mrs. Harold (Louise) Green, Lafayette, and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, today (Friday) from 5 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Maus Chapel with the Rev. Harvey Lange officiating. Burial will be in Newtown Cemetery with military graveside rites by the American Legion. Those so desiring may contribute in memoriam to the Newtown Cemetery Association.
