WEST POINT — James “Jim”. Albert Jonas, 64, 8832 S. 900 W., West Point, died Thursday, May 16, 2002 at his home. He was born March 23, 1938 in Memphis, the son of William E. and Cynthia Ellen Lewellen Jonas. He first married Icie Q. Brown in Wingate. He later married Deborah Nelson Aug. 24, 1998 in West Point. He was a life resident of the West Point community and attended West Point school. He farmed for several years in Tippecanoe County. He retired from Purdue University where he worked in the custodial department of Union Building for 14 years. He was a member of the West Point Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing Survivors include: two sons, James Richard (Maxine) Jonas, West Point and Gene Raymond (Shawna) Jonas, Lafayette; four sisters, Ethel Nichols, West Lafayette, Roselean Jones, Wingate, Alta (William) Bennett, Lafayette and Brenda (Don) Hilt, state of Washington; and four grandchildren, Joseph White, Seth Jonas, Zachary Hicks and Dakoda Jonas. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Marie Jonas, Eva Pearl Jonas and Gladys Brietonback; two brothers, Fred and John Jonas; and a step brother, Robert Ellsworth Jonas. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Maus Funeral Home, Attica. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Point Fire and Ambulance Department. – jlr
