Wingate—Mabel C. Johnson, 89, Wingate, died at 7:55 p.m. Saturday, May 27, 1989 in Williamsburg Healthcare, Crawfordsville. She had been a patient there since May 6 and in failing health the past year.
She was born Feb. 1, 1900 in Tiffin, Ohio. She had lived in Crawfordsville before moving to Wingate in 1978. She graduated from Romney High School in 1919.
She was a nurses’ aide at Culver Hospital for 24 years, retiring in 1970.
She was a member of Linden United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women’s Club.
Surviving are a sister, Lucile Lawson, with whom she resided; one brother, Andrew Johnson, Crawfordsville; one nephew and five nieces. She was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn Shepherd.
Graveside services were at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Linden Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Rhoads and Gene Johnson officiating.
