Joseph H. Johnson died at the home of his son Cassius (sic-Ulysses) Johnson in this city, with whom he has lived for the past fifteen years, early last Friday morning. He had long been a resident of Indiana and was 80 years old the 7th of last may. Death was due to the infirmities of age. He was only ill for a few days and seemed to suffer no pain. The fires of life burned lower and lower and finally went out entirely. Mrs. Johnson, his wife, died some years ago, since which time he seemed only waiting for the glad summons to come to join his life-long companion. The funeral services, conducted by Rev. Daougherty, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, interment following in Oak Grove Cemetery beside the remains of his wife. Deceased leaves Cassius, his only son, and family, together with a brother 84 years old, who lives north-west of Danville,to mourn his death (Note: Newspaper located at the Covington Public Library, Covington, Fountain Co., IN.) (Note: According to death record his father is listed as William Johnson and mother as Hannah Hale. Had brothers William Johnson and John Johnson, my great great grandfather.)
