ATTICA — Carl Thorild “Thory" Johnson, 88, 303 Bond St., Attica, died at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2002 in the Hospice Center of Hamilton, Hamilton, Ohio. He was born Aug. 27, 1913 in Ogden, Iowa, the son of Carl A. and Eleanor Gustafson Johnson. He married Lois Mills Jan. 24, 1942 in Zionsville. She preceded in death June 14, 1996. He grew up in the Attica area, graduating from Attica High School in 1931. He then went on to Indiana University, where he received his degree in business administration in 1935. While at Indiana University, he was a member of Delta Tau Delta. He had lived in Indianapolis for six years and New Orleans for three years. He worked as an accountant for Cabinet Craft in Attica, General Motors in Indianapolis and for 20 years he worked as plant manager for Radio Material Corporation. He was a lieutenant in the U. S. Navy during World War II where he served in Guam in the Mariana Island. He was a board member and officer of the First Lutheran Church of Attica. He served on several committees for the community of Attica including the Chamber of Commerce, Attica Foundation, two terms as president for the United Way, American Legion, VFW and he served on the draft board for over 20 years. Survivors include: two sons, Carl T. (Julie) Johnson, Menlo Park, Calif. and Ronald C. (Kathleen) Johnson, West Center, Ohio; a daughter, Aleen (Barry) Miller, Hamilton, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and five greatgrandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Virgil Johnson; and a sister, Astrid Bredemeier. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday in First Lutheran Church, Attica, with the Rev. Paul Pribbenow officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Maus Funeral Home, Attica, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Attica First Lutheran Church. – jlr
