STRINGTOWN -- Alexander "Alex" H. Johnson, 89, of Rt. 1, Covington, died at 11:40 a.m. Saturday in Covington Manor Nursing Home. Mr. Johnson, who had been in ill health for four years, had operated a general store in Stringtown from 1936 to 1958, operated a coal mine for several years, and had been trustee of Wabash Township from 1924 to 1932. Born Feb. 28, 1886, in Wabash Township, Fountain County, he was a son of John A. and Anna Spinks Johnson. He was married to Edith Rowell on June 25, 1923. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Keith (Elizabeth) Lewis of Rt. 1, Covington and Mrs. Robert (Mary) Wolter of Rt. 3, Covington; a son, Rendall of Rt. 1, Covington; a sister, Miss Grace Johnson of Rt. 1, Covington; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home at Covington with the Rev. Herman Smith officiating. Burial we be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Alexander H. Johnson, Rt. 1, Covington, died 11:40 p.m. Saturday at Covington Manor Nursing Home. He had been in ill health four years.
  He was born Feb. 28, 1886, in Wabash Township, Fountain County, the son of John A. and Anna Spinks Johnson. He was married June 25, 1923 to Edith Rowell, who survives.
  Surviving with his wife are three children, Rendall Johnson, Rt. 1, Covington; Mrs. Keith (Elizabeth) Lewis, Rt. 1, Covington; Mrs. Robert (Mary) Wolter, Rt. 3, Covington; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren; one sister, Miss Grace Johnson, Rt. 1, Covington.
  Mr. Johnson was a life resident of Wabash Township and operated a coal mine several years. He served as Trustee of Wabash Township from 1924 to 1932. He also operated a general store at Stringtown from 1936 to 1958.
  His funeral will be Tuesday, April 1, 2 p.m. at the Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home at Covington with Rev. Herman Smith officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Monday. -s
