Memorial post American Legion of Hillsboro conducted the Military Funeral held for Oscar C. Johns, 62 who died at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Illinois Sunday evening. The service was held at the Crumley Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Homer Cole, pastor of the Hillsboro Christian Church officiated and organ music was by Mrs. Mary Louise Newman.  Pall bearers were Ralph York, John Chatt, Robert Johns, Gerald Lucas, Wayne Ludlow and Sam Eitnier. Charles Shade served as Chaplain and Charles Humphreys was Commander of the Color Guard, John Giovanini, Paul Grimes, Archie Lighty, Jess Smith.  Clyde Jeffries commanded the firing squad composed of Karl Jahnke, Paul Harshbarger, Charles Donham, Marion Osborn, Kenneth Allen, Ted Hines, Gerald Eitnier and Alfred Burk. Taps were by Jeanette Donham and Joe Ellen Parker. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. – kbz

Oscar C. Johnson, 62 who recently retired as cashier of the Hillsboro State Bank after 7 years died at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Illinois Sunday evening shortly after 5 o’clock where he had been a patient for the past two weeks. Mr. Johns had been in ill health for several months.  All of his life was spent in the vicinity of Hillsboro. He was born south of here Sept 9, 1895 the son of William H. and Virginia Bushong Johns. He was married to Johnye Ramsey Aug 17, 1917 who survives with two foster daughters, Mrs. Fern Marie Eitnier of Danville, Ill and Mrs. Wanda Lee Ludlow of Veedersburg. One sister also survives.  Mrs. Ottie Lucas of Indianapolis and six grandchildren.  Mr. Johns was a World War I veteran and active in political and business circles. Received his education in Hillsboro School and was a member of the Hillsboro Christian Church.  He and Mrs. Johns were engaged in the restaurant business for more than 20 years. After serving four years on the Town Board of Hillsboro he was elected trustee of Cain Township from 1935-1939. In 1940 he was elected auditor of Fountain County on the Republican ticket and served two terms to 1948.  He was post commander of the Memorial Post, American Legion and served as president of the Hillsboro Community Club. – kbz
