Mrs. May Jenks, age 86, whose friends knew her as a lover of flowers, died about 4:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept 2 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lulu Watts, on Covington Rt.3, east of here. Mrs. Jenks was born Oct 19, 1874at Wallace, the daughter of Rufus and Nancy Hybarger. She married E.L. Jenks in 1896 and reared nine children. Mrs. Jenks had lived in this community for about 33 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Wallace. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs Watts of Covington Rt.3, and Mrs Edith Bayes of Lafyette; four sons, Maurice of Detroit, Mich., Marvin of Covington Rt. 1 and Dewey and Clifford of Veedersburg; eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Three brothers and four sisters preceded her in death as did four sons, Fred, Vern, Virgil and an un-named son, who died as an infant. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Parham Funeral Home in Veedersburg. The Rev. Alfred Dobbs officiated. Burial was in the Miller Cemetery, south of Lodi. The soloist, Jim Homes, was accompanied by Mrs. Leighton Minnick, and sang "The Old Rugged Cross' and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." The pallbearers were; Herb Ferguson, Lawrence Furr, Newt Webber, Floyd Hovermale, Earl Galloway and Russell Bowers.
