Carl Nicholas (Butch) James, 64-year-old resident of 307 Second Sr., Covington died at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Ill., where he had been a patient since May 2. He had been seriously ill the past three months.
Born May 3, 1902, at Parkersburg, he was a son of Benton E. and Laura Nicholas James. He was married to Clova Pearl Dean June 6, 1926.
Mr. James was a member of the First Church of Christ at Covington, the Tidal Lodge No. 36 of Knights of Pythias and the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America. A graduate d Clinton High School, he had resided in Rockville and Clinton before coming to Covington in 1940.
A meat cutter for Kroger Stores for the past 27 years, he was employed at a Danville, Ill. store. He had been manager of the meat department of the Covington store for many years.
Mr. James also served three years on the Covington City Council.
Surviving are the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Virginia May Small of Covington; a son, Jerry at home; a brother, Harley of Crawfordsville; a sister Mrs. Amanda Pyle of Clinton, and two grandchildren.
Mr. James was predeceased by a brother and a sister.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in Covington. The Rev. Roger
James and the Rev. Harold Fogle, former and present minister respectively of, the First Church of Christ, Fifth St., officiated. Burial was in the Roachdale Cemetery.
