EVANSVILLE — Ruth N. Jackson, 86, Evansville, died at 9:25 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2000 in Evansville Protestant N. H. She was born Sept. 1, 1913 in Newport, the daughter of Roy Thomas Sollars and Olline Mitchell. She married Ralph Edward Jackson Aug. 7, 1933 in Chicago, Ill. He preceded in death Nov. 15, 1983. She graduated from Alvin, Ill. High School. She resided in Veedersburg from 1969 to 1998 when she moved to Evansville. She formerly lived in Indianapolis and Paris, Ill. She was a member of the First Christian Church, C.W.F. of the church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a secretary in a physician's office for 25 years, then a partner with her sister operating Veedersburg Florist from 1969 to 1982, when she retired. Survivors include: two sisters, Anne (James) Songer, Veedersburg and Bette Sollars (Charles) Switzer, Evansville; and a step daughter, Dorothy (Doug) Harvey, Sterling Heights, Mich. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and a sister. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday in First Christian Church, Veedersburg, with Rusty Anderson and the Rev. Joe Sollars Jr. officiating. Burial was in Thomas Cemetery, Newport. Parham-Shelby Funeral Home, Veedersburg, was in charge of arrangements. – jlr
