Delcie M. (Smith)
Ireland, 94, of Tilton, Illinois, died in Sun Bridge Care Center, Danville,
Ill. on Friday, June 16, 2000 at 2:10 a.m. Born in Mellott on January 21, 1906,
she was the daughter of the late Eli L. and Nellie (Lighty) Smith. She was raised
in the Mellott area and later moved to Hammond, where she lived until moving to
the Central Park of Tilton. She had attended Richland Township School and
graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1924. Mrs. Ireland worked as a
secretary at Vermilion County Health Department in Danville from 1927-29. She
was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Tilton and enjoyed gardening.
Her marriage was to Robert Ireland on February 25, 1928 in Tuscola, Ill. He
preceded her in death on January 4, 1985. Surviving, are; a son, Richard (Pat)
Ireland of Bullhead City, Ariz.; a sister, Mildred Adkins of Crawfordsville;
four grandsons, Mike (Nancy) Ireland, Rick (Kim) Ireland, Steve (Sandy) Ireland
and Jay (Nancy) Ireland; and nine great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in
death by a son, Robert Ireland and a brother, William Smith. Visitation was
Monday prior to service at Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro with Rev. Richard
Wright officiating. interment in Union Christian Cemetery, near Newtown.
