Mrs. Martha Emery about 75 years old, a native of Veedersburg lies critically injured in a Marion, Ind hospital after an accident in which her daughter, Mrs. Sina Reed Hyde of Ogdensburg NY was fatally hurt.  Mrs. Hyde died of head injuries in a Marion Hospital shortly after the crash which occurred 9 miles south of that city on June 4.  Mrs. John Pritchard 52 also of Ogdensburg and a close friend of Mrs. Hyde was only slightly hurt in the collision.  Mrs. Emery was the former Miss Viola Johnson (?) of Veedersburg and was first married to Clifford Reed of Veedersburg and after his death to Jacob S. Emery owner of a Danville, Ill Department Store.  She was an old friend of Mrs. George d’Arlier, the former Sina Booe Ross whom she had visited here in late years.  At one time Mrs. Emery before marriage was employed at the old Central Hotel then owned by Mrs. d’Arlier’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. TH Booe.  Mrs. Emery’s daughter was born in Veedersburg Jan 2, 1898 when her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Reed lived here. Clifford was a brother of Charles Red and Fred Reed now living in Louisiana. Clifford was employed as a cigarmaker by the late William C. Cox and when the latter moved his cigar factory to Danville, the Reeds also moved there. Mrs. Emery was a saleslady in the Emery Dry Goods Store in the Masonic Temple building in Danville and after the deaths of Clifford Reed and Mrs. Emery, Emery and Mrs. Reed were married.  Mrs. Emery’s injuries were reported as fractures of the skull, arms and ribs and a crushed chest and remained unconscious several days. Since Mr. Emery’s death the widow had lived at the Wolford Hotel in Danville where she had been visited by her daughter and Mrs. Pritchard. They were all en route to Ogdensburg when another car struck them at an intersection.  Mrs. Pritchard was driving. Funeral services for Mrs. Hyde were held on Monday at Ogdensburg. Surviving her are the husband, Harvey W Hyde, engaged in the plumbing business and two daughters, Mrs. Nancy Fountain who is with her husband, Major Risden Fountain Tokyo, Japan and Mrs. Martha Hyde of Stamford, Conn. – kbz
