The mother of Mrs. Harold (Doris) Sweet, 1101 Third St., was killed Friday, Nov. 4, in a crash near Marshall, Ill., in which state troopers reported a utility pole was downed on U.S. 40 near the Illinois state line. Mrs. Sweet's mother, Mrs. Pearl E. Hurt, age 72, of Casey was one of two women killed in the accident when their car overturned on a curve, and went over an embankment, state police said. Mrs. Bertha Washburn, age 60, died six hours after the crash enroute to Terre Haute. Mrs. Hurt died enroute to the Union Hospital at Terre Haute. Mrs. Hurt was born July 30, 1889 in Cumberland County, the daughter of Robert and Allie Coon Wood. She was married to Elmer (Tell) Hurt in 1904, and he survives, Mrs. Hurt was the operator of two nursing homes in Casey and was in the process of starting another. Mrs. Hurt was a life resident of Casey. She was a member of the Grove Christian Church. Survivors include her husband; five children, Mrs. Doris Sweet of Covington; Mrs. Zola Delp of Casy; Earl Hurt of Casey; Mrs. Janice Wallace of Oaklawn, and Phillip of Joliet. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Markwell Funeral Home in Casey. --typed by Walt W
