William Mackley Hughes, 83, resident of 1022 N. Fifth St., died at 3:30 p. m., Wednesday, May 21 at his home. He had been ill for the past three weeks. A farmer most of his life, Mr. Hughes was born July 16, 1874, in Warren County, the son of William Thomas and Levisa Ann Henderson Hughes. He was first married to Myrtle Kenny, who preceded him in death, and was later married to Mary Ann Layton in 1943, who also preceded him in death. He is survived by one daughter, Anna Hughes, who resides with him and one son, Herschel, whereabouts unknown, and one foster son, John Bush of Oakwood, Ill.; three grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. The body is at the family residence and will be taken to the Assembly of God Church, of which he was a member, on Saturday, where services will be held at 2 p. m. The Rev. James Hall of Mellott and the Rev. Noah Beadle, pastor of the church will officiate and burial, with the Hegg Funeral Home in charge, will be in Upper Mound Cemetery. --typed by Walt W
