Nile L. Hughes, 59 of 4445 Mercy Lane, Indianapolis passed away Friday 2:30 p.m. in St. Vincent’s Hospital after suffering a heart attack two hours earlier while working at Allison General Motors Co. He had not suffered a previous attack and an autopsy was held as to the cause of his death. Mr. Hughes was born in Veedersburg and attended the local schools, being a basketball star in the days when basketball was played in Nixon’s Hall. From Veedersburg he went to Lafayette taking a business course and was associated with the National Cash Register Company for 20 years. He had been in the employment of Allison’s for the past 12 years. Mr. Hughes was married in Nov 1942 to Elizabeth Stutsman of Indianapolis. He is also survived by a half-sister, Wilda L. Bell of Veedersburg. His mother, Rosa E. Bell passed away May 31, 1951. Funeral services were held on Monday at 1 p.m. in Flanner & Buchanan Fall Creek Mortuary. Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery. – kbz
