Covington, Ind. (CNS) — Homer Presley Howard, 64, died unexpectedly at 1 a.m. today (June 30, 1966) at his home, 1314 Short, following a heart attack. Born Feb. 21, 1902, in Richland Township in Fountain County, he was the son of Fenton and Docia Cecil Howard. He was married April 26, 1924, to Viola Starkey, who survives. Mr. Howard had resided in Covington for the past eight years and formerly resided in Attica for 20 years. He was employed as a machinist at Harrison Steel Foundry for 20 years and later as an inspector for the Indiana State Highway Department. The past several years, he has been a licensed real estate salesman. He was a graduate of Wingate High and attended the University of Illinois for two years. He was a member of the Mellott Christian Church, Attica Masonic Lodge 708, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute and Attica Eagles Lodge. Other survivors include two sons, Presley D. of Williamsport Route 3 and Lt. Cmdr. Donald L. Walter of Panama City, Fla.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. The Rev. Everett White will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The body is at the funeral home. Friends will be received after noon Friday. Masonic services will be conducted at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Friday. --typed by Walt W

He was married to Viola Starkey on April 26, 1924. Mr. Howard lived in Attica for 20 years before moving here eight years ago. He was a member of the Mellott Congregational Christian Church, Wabash Lodge No. 708 of F&AM at Attica and the Scottish Rite Valley at Terre Haute. He was a machinist at Harrison Steel in Attica for 20 years and an inspector for the state highway department. He also was a licensed real estate salesman. Survivors include the widow: two sons, Presley D. Howard of Rt. 3 Williamsport and Lt. Commander Donald Lee Howard of Panama City, Fla., and five grandchildren. A sister preceded him in death. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home with Rev. Everett White officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
