The body of Eugene Howard, 18, missing since Sunday evening, was recovered from the Wabash River at 8:20 Thursday morning. His body was discovered by his father, Arthur Howard, and a brother Richard Fletcher, floating among debris on the east bank of the river just below Portland Arch. The search for the youth began Sunday evening when he didn't return from a boating trip. He was last seen at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday, and his boat was found at 8:00 p.m. lodged into the west bank of the river near Kickapoo. The gas can was later found one fourth mile below the position of the boat. Fountain County Coroner Robert Shelby said the investigation is continuing and an autopsy will be performed. The body was brought to the Monroe Street landing where an investigation was conducted by Coroner Shelby, Sheriff Art Crues, Attica police and Shatell and Frink, conservation officers. Arthur Eugene Howard was born at Boswell on Dec. 9, 1950, the son of Arthur and Eldora Hetrick Howard. He had lived on Attica R. 4 since last semester of high school. He was associated with his father in the salvage business. He was a graduate of Attica High School in 1969, and was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses at Veedersburg. Friends will be received at the DeSutter Funeral Home after 6:00 p.m. Friday. Funeral services in the DeSutter Chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday. Burial in Riverside Cemetery. --tch
