Hillsboro - Elton Howard, 72, died Monday, Jan 14, at his home in Hillsboro of a heart attack. This was the second heart attack by Mr. Howard in two weeks. Mr. Howard was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Bessie Locke. He is survived by his second wife, Sarah; four sons, Kenneth and Russell of Crawfordsville, Cecil of Phoenix, Ariz; and Jack of Veedersburg and two daughters, Mrs. Beulah Holman and Betty Howard both of Crawfordsville. Mr. Howard was born in October, 1884, west of Mellott, the son of Alva and Susan Rice Howard. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Crumley Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Rev. Don Weaver of Veedersburg will be the officiating minister. Burial will be in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. -- typed by kbz

Elton Howard, 72, died at his home in Hillsboro at 11:45 Monday from a heart attack. Mr. Howard had suffered a heart attack about a week ago and had been confined to his home. He was employed by the Fountain county Highway Department and had been at the garage about 10,:30 a.m. Monday making his death a shock to the community.
Elton Howard was the son of Alva and Susan Rice Howard and was born in Richland township Oct 7, 1884 west of Mellott. He was married to Bessie Locke, Dec, 21, 1904, who passed away June 11, 1954. There were six children born to this marriage: four sons,
Cecil, of Tempe, Ariz.; Russell and Kenneth of Crawfordsville and Jack, of Veedersburg; two daughters, Mrs. Beulah Holman and Miss Betty Howard, of Crawfordsville.
Other survivors are the widow, Mrs. Sarah Patterson Howard, whom he married Oct. 10, 1955; two sisters, Mrs. Muriel Rutledge, of Mellott and Mrs. Edith Palin, of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and seven stepchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Crumley Funeral Home in Hillsboro at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Don Weaver, of Veedersburg, officiating. Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery in Waynetown. - jz
