Attica – Mrs. Vera Iris Hoover, 88 an educator and retired businesswoman, died at 8:56 a.m. Tuesday in Community Hospital, Williamsport. She lived at 203 Avenue 2, Attica. In ill health the past two months, she was a patient at Covington Manor Nursing Center before entering the hospital Monday.  Mrs. Hoover was the sister of May Phillips, an Attica poet and educator who died Sunday.  For 25 years, Mrs. Hoover taught primary, intermediate and junior high classes in Attica schools. She retired from teaching in 1944. Mrs. Hoover then opened a ladies’ and childrens’ apparel store in Attica in 19440 and later owned and operated The Vogue, a ladies’ clothing store in Attica. In 1974 she retired from business. Born in Oxford Feb 6 1897 Mrs. Hoover lived most of her life in Attica. A graduate of Attica HS she attended Marion College, Indiana State Teachers College, Purdue University and Indiana University.  She was married Jan 1, 1928 in Attica, to Ralph Clayton Hoover who died Aug 29, 1974. Mrs. Hoover was a member of Free Methodist Church, Attica. There are no immediate survivors. - klbz
