Mrs. Carrie Coffing Holdefer, age 84, aunt of Mrs. Mary Dunlap and Mrs. Louise Bilsland of Covington, died Monday night, April 1, in a hospital at Perry, Iowa, where she had been a patient one day. Mrs. Holdefer and her niece, Mrs. Louisa Hall Ogle of Sacramento, Calif., who had been visiting in Perry with her aunt for six weeks, were both hospitalized Sunday, March 31. Mrs. Ogle, who was admitted for the flu, died about 5 p.m. Monday and Mrs. Holdefer succumbed later in the night. She had been in ill health with a chronic heart condition for at least two years. Mrs. Holdefer was born Jan. 25, 1879, on the Coffing Farm in Shawnee Township, Fountain County, a daughter of Smith F. and Louisa Brown Coffing. While residing here she was active in the local chapter of Eastern Star and the Methodist Church. She worked at the City Building for several years and was elected City Clerk-Treasurer. She also was employed at a few of the business establishments at various times. Following her marriage to Jacob O. Holdefer on Nov. 28, 1946, they moved to Perry, Iowa, where he was a business man and operated a gain feed mill. He preceded her in death. Surviving are some nieces, including Mrs. Louise Bilsland and Mrs. Mary Dunlap of Covington, and nephews. Funeral services and burial will be in Perry, Iowa, but other details have not been received here by relatives at this time. --typed by Walt W
