PERRYSVILLE — Elsie M. Brown Hodges, 90, Perrysville, died at 2:25 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2002 in Provena USMC Sager Campus, Danville. Ill. She was born Sept. 29, 1911 in Happy, Texas, the daughter of Glenn H. and Emma L. Lawson Marquess. She married Orville L Brown Feb. 5, 1933 in Veedersburg. He preceded in death Feb. 1, 1963. She married Wayne Hodges in 1966 and he preceded in death in 1984. She was a resident of Fountain County and Gessie most of her life. She attended school in Portland Arch, Attica and graduated from Covington High School in 1929. She spent 40 winters in Sarasota and Bradenton, Fla. She was a member of Gessie United Methodist Church and Highland Home Economics Club. Survivors include: a son, John L. (Dolores) Brown, Covington; a daughter, Janet L. Sare, Lafayette; a brother, George (Shirley) Marquess, Marshall; two step daughters, Fay Geater, Chicago and Jane Larson, Lake Geneva, Wis., five grandchildren, Cindy (Joe) Burney, Perrysville, Richard Brown, Westerville, Ohio, Donna L. (Bob) Veatch, Madison, Wis., Cathy L. (Dave) Coffman, Covington and Steven D. Sare, San Francisco; seven great-grandchildren; and 12 nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lee and Carl; a sister, Ida Louis Stonecipher; and a niece. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, with the Rev. Laura Wells officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington. – jlr
