George Hoagland, 75, of Covington, a retired farmer and resident of the Salem Community east of Covington for 50 years, died unexpectedly in his sleep between 4 and 6 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27. Death was caused by a heart ailment.
Born July 19, 1882, at Sheldon, Ill., he was a son of James and Theodisa Warrick Hoagland. He married Grace Elizabeth Hawkins in 1907 and she preceded him in death on December 10, 1953.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth, of Covington; two daughters, Mrs. Evelyn English of Veedersburg, and Mrs. Eva Lois Stonecipher of Veedersburg; two brothers, Ike and Frank, both of Sheldon; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Amos, Mrs. Minnie James and Mrs. Emma Green, all of Sheldon; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the Salem Methodist Church and the Covington Lions Club.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Salem Methodist Church with the Rev. Hurbert Neph officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery with the Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in charge. - jz
