Mr. Hinton had been the Newtown postmaster for 15 years. He formerly worked for Kettlehut Construction Co and also was a self-employed building contractor. He was Richland Township trustee from 1962-70. Born in Crawfordsville Sept 10, 1824 he lived there and in Attica before moving to Newtown 34 years ago. He also resided in North Port Florida during the winter months. He attended Crawfordsville High School. He married Margaret L. Fairchild on Feb 22, 1947 in Waynetown. She survives. He was a member of Newtown Community Church; Masonic Lodge 205, Newtown; Scottish Rite of Terre Haute; Elks Lodge of Crawfordsville; Harrison Hills Country Club in Attica; and Quigle-Palin American Legion Post 394, Newtown. He also was an avid golfer. A World War II veteran he served in the US Navy. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Janice) Garrett of Lafayette and Mrs. Curtis (Cheryl) Coltharp of Crawfordsville; one son, John Hinton of Mesa Ariz; and three sister, Mrs. Frank (June) Wilson; Mrs. Thomas (Mary) Hudson; and Mrs. Franklin (Helen) Johnson all of Crawfordsville. --transcribed by kbz

Avery Hinton - Visitation at Maus Funeral Home, Attica, 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. with Masonic memorial service at 8 p.m. Service in Maus Chapel 2 p.m. Monday, the Revs. James Boudouris and James M. Campbell officiating. Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery, Crawfordsville with military rites by Quigly-Palin American Legion of Newtown.
