Mrs. Dora Hershberger, 85, native of Veedersburg died at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis Saturday night where she had been a patient the past few weeks. Mrs. Hershberger was born in Jamestown, Ill April 21, 1871, daughter of James H. and Amanda Burke Tipton. She moved to Veedersburg with her parents at the age of six weeks. On Nov 18, 1888 she was married to Edward Hershberger who preceded her in death July 30, 1937. Mr. and Mrs. Hershberger operated a grocery in Veedersburg for many years. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Marie Greenley of Indianapolis; a son Ray of Attica; and a niece whom she reared, Miss Cleo Belle Tipton of San Francisco, Calif; a brother, Don Tipton of Lafayette. She was a member of the Veedersburg Christian Church. She had made her home for the past several years with her daughter, Mrs. Marie Greenley at Indianapolis. Services were held at the Veedersburg Christian Church on Tuesday afternoon. – kbz

Dora Alice Tipton Hershberger was the fourth of six children born to the union of James H. and Amanda Burke Tipton. She was born April 21, 1871 near Jamestown, Illinois and came to Indiana with her parents when she was but six weeks old. She attended schools and churches of the Coopers Chapel neighborhood in Wabash Township of Fountain County, Indiana and it was here she spent her early life. On Nov 18, 1888 she was united in marriage with Charles Edward Hershberger. Ed and Dora Hershberger as they were known to their friends started their married life in the Steam Corner neighborhood and their first home was on a farm in that area. They later came to Veedersburg and here they operated a grocery store for some 10 years, afterwards moving to Lafayette, Indiana. While in Veedersburg she was an active member of the Christian Church. Mr. and Mrs. Hershberger had four children born to the union: Frank, Jesse, Marie and Ray Hershberger. While here in Veedersburg they opened their home to a nice and nephew, Cleo Belle (Billie) Tipton and Edwin Tipton both of whom attended school here. Edwin was taken by accident while quite young. Mrs. Hershberger’s later years were spent with her daughter in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Greenley of Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by the husband who passed away July 30, 1937 by two of her sons, Jesse in 1910 and Frank in 1930 and by two sisters and two brothers. She was confined to a hospital during the month preceding her death on Saturday Oct 13 and passed away at the age of 85 years 5 months 22 days. She is survived by the daughter, Mrs. Marie Greenley of Indianapolis; a son Ray Hershberger of Attica, Ind and one brother, Don Tipton of Lafayette, Ind; 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. – kbz
