WILLIAMSPORT — Paul W. Herndon, 83, Williamsport, died at 4:20 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2007 in St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital. He was born June 27, 1924 in Missouri, the son of Walter F. and Grace I. (Laxson) Herndon. He married Vivian (Farrar) Green in 1962 and they later divorced. He was a Warren County resident most of his life. He attended Warren County schools. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II as a combat medic and was awarded the Purple Heart decoration and several other honors and decorations. He worked as an ironworker. He was a member of the Iron Workers Local 379 Lafayette, the V.F.W. Post #3318 Attica and American Legion Post #259 of Williamsport. He enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting, coin collecting, and knife collecting. He loved socializing with his friends at the V.F.W. and going to the races at Kamp Motor Speedway in Boswell. Survivors include: two sons, Matt Herndon, Williamsport and Mark Herndon, Independence; their mother, Vivian (Farrar) Green, Independence; two sisters, Nancy (Ered) Uyeda, Greenfield and Martha (Robert) Dispennett, Pine Village; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, June Arnold. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight (Wednesday) in Grady Funeral Home, Williamsport. Services will be there in the chapel at 11 a.m. Thursday with Evangelist Rob Dispennett officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Williamsport, with full military honors. Memorial donations may be made to the Miss Beason Scholarship Fund, c/o Warren County Community Foundation or V.F.W. Post #3318 Attica.
