VEEDERSBURG —John Julius (Jack) Hering, Sr., age 77, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the Carmen Nursing Home in Crawfordsville. He had been there since Sunday. He had resided in Punta Gorda, Fla., for the past 11 years and came to Veedersburg Saturday. He had been in failing health for a year. Prior to going to Florida, he had resided in Veedersburg for 20 years and was distributor for the Phillips 66 Petroleum Co. Mr. Hering was born Sept. 3, 1890, in Indiana, the son of John and Augusta Herbert Hering. He was married Nov. 22, 1911, in Clarke County to Cleo Scherer, who died in 1963. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge 491, a charter member of the Lions Club and a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include: one son, Jack Jr. of Veedersburg; one sister, Mrs. Lillian Wortinger of Three Rivers, Mich.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Parham Funeral Home. The Rev. Mrs. Edith Bruner officiated and burial was in Rockfield Cemetery.  --typed by Walt W
