William H. Henry died at his residence in this place on Friday morning, Feb. 23, 1900, of a stroke of paralysis received on the 11 inst. He rallied to some extent after the shock and there was some hopes of his recovery, but only for a few days as it was soon seen that there was no hopes and he grew gradually worse until the end came.
He was born in Washington County, Virginia, Dec. 24, 1827, and was the son of Hiram and Sarah Henry. At the age of four years he was brought to Monroe County, Indiana, where he grew to man’s estate and had lived in Indiana up to the time of his death, most of the time in Montgomery and Fountain Counties, where he was engaged for a great many years in the stock business and did as large and as good a business in that line as any man in this part of the country. For several years he had lived in this town a retired life, his health not permitting the exposures required in the live stock business. He was married Feb. 3, 1851 to Miss Martha Summers, who survives him. To this union ten children were born, only four of whom are living. They are J. S., I. N., and R. A. Henry, and Mrs. Lulu Carney, all of whom live here except R. A. Henry, who lived in Indianapolis. The funeral exercises were held at the Christian Church on Sunday, conducted by Rev. J. T. Phillips, interment at Newtown, Ind. In addition to the above, one brother and two sisters survive him. -s
