Crawfordsville, Ind.—Indiana State Police trooper Danny R. Henley, 30, was found dead of a gunshot wound today in his patrol car parked in the driveway of his Crawfordsville home, a state police spokesman said.
The spokesman said although foul play was not suspected, State Police Supt. Robert DeBard has ordered an investigation to determine if the shooting was accidental.
Henley, a native of Terre Haute, joined the state police in September 1968, and served in the Lafayette District.
He was a graduate of Terre Haute Wiley High School and had been attending classes at Indiana-Purdue University in Indianapolis.
He is survived by his widow, Mary, and two children, Danielle Rene, 2, and Heather Lynn, 1, and his mother, Verlon Ruth Henley of Terre Haute.
The police spokesman said the wound came from a personal gun, a two shot .38-caliber derringer, not his service revolver. -s
