Funeral rites for Lafe Leonard Helms, age 66, who died at 5:15 a. m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the home of a sister, Mrs. Katie Clawson, at 1122 Third St., were held Friday morning, Nov. 25, at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. The Rev. Roger James officiated and burial was in Colds Springs Cemetery, north of Sterling. Mr. Helms was born Jan. 16, 1894, at Stone Bluff, the son of William and Liza Jane Asbury Helms. He had worked on farms in Fountain County and later at the Lafayette Soldier's Home where he had served as a male nurse. Mr. Helmes was a former member of the Attica Moose Lodge. Survivors include his sister and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two wives, Pearl and Anna Belle, three brothers and two sisters. --typed by Walt W

Born Jan. 16, 1894, at Stone Bluff, he was the son of William and Liza Jane Asbury Helms. He had worked on farms in Fountain County and later at the Lafayette Soldier's Home where he had served as a male nurse. He was a former member of the Attica Moose Lodge.
Survivors include his sister and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two wives, Pearl and Anna Belle, three brothers and two sisters.
Services will be at 10 a.m. CST. Friday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. The Rev. Roger James will officiate, with burial in
