VEEDERSBURG — Horace Helms, 79, retired Veedersburg rural mail carrier, died in Care, Inc., Danville, Ill., at 10:50 p.m. Monday. He was a patient there two weeks and had been ill a year. Born here, he was a life resident and an Army veteran of World War I. He was a rural mail carrier here for a number of years before his retirement. Mr. Helms was married in 1918 to Marguerite Clark who died last month. He was a member of the Methodist Church and Charles Forrest Post of the American Legion. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Hannah Lou Smith of Veedersburg; a son, Horace Jr. of Silver Spring, Md., and a sister, Mrs. Ada Carmichael of Malvern, Ark. --typed by Walt W

Funeral services for Horace Helms, age 79, of Veedersburg, who died Monday, May 2, at the Care Nursing Home in Danville, Ill., were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Parham Funeral Home in Veedersburg. The Rev. Edith Bruner officiated and burial was in Rockfield Cemetery. Mr. Helms, who had been a patient at the nursing home two weeks, was born in Veedersburg, March 24, 1887, the son of James and Hannah Marlatt Helms. He was married April 23, 1913, to Marguerite Clark, who preceded him in death in April. He was a veteran of service in the Army during World War I. He was a retired rural mail carrier. He was a member of the Charles Forest American Legion Post and the Methodist Church of Veedersburg. Survivors include: one daughter, Mrs. Hannah Lou Smith of Veedersburg; one son, Horace Jr. of Silver Springs, Md. one sister, Mrs. Ada Carmichael of Malvern, Ark., and five grandchildren. --typed by Walt W
