Herschel Richard Helms, 66, Williamsport, died at his home at 10 a.m. Thursday. He had been in ill health since January. Born Dec 27, 1903 in Fountain County at Portland Arch he was the son of Goerge W. and Celia Catherine Brown Helms. He was married to Edna Mae Teegarden at Darlington June 16 1923. She died Jan 1 1943. Mr. Helms spent most of his life in this area. He moved to Crawfordsville in 1958 and to Attica in 1960 before returning to Williamsport in 1966. He had been employed by the Indiana State Highway Dept Garage in Fountain County and operated the Cottage Inn Service Statiaon in Attica for 4 years. He was a member of the Portland Arch Christian Church. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Margret Casey, Williamsport, a brother, Byran Helms, Attica, a nephew, Goerge Leon Helms, Newtown and two grandsons. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the DeSutter Chapel at Attica with Rev. Harry Randolph officiating. Burial will be in Portland Arch Cemetery.
