Veedersburg - Charley Helms, 81, died at his home on Rt 3, Veedersburg at 4 a.m. Friday. He had been ill for the past 4 weeks. A veteran of WWI, he served with the US Army in France. He had been employed by the Indiana Condensed Cream Co for 22 years and Indiana State High Department six years. Mr. Helms was a member of Charles Forrest Post 288 of The American Legion of Veedersburg and the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Born April 26, 1889, he was the son of George W. and Martha Chumlea Helms. He was married Aug 10, 1929, to Gladys Dodds in Rockville. She survives. Other survivors are three sons, Chalres of Tampa, FL; Dean of Florrisant, MO; and DeWayne of Rapid City, SD; 8 grandchldren and 3 stepgrandchildren. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Parham Funeral Home here with Rev. Alfred Dobbs officiating. Burial in Rockville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. -kz

Veedersburg – Charlie Helms, 81, Rt 3, Veedersburg died in his home at 4 a.m. Friday. He had been seriously ill four weeks. Mr. Helms was born in Veedersburg and had been a life resident. He was employed 22 years by Indiana Condensed Cream Co and six years with the State Highway Department. In 1929 he was married to Gladys Dobbs who survives. He was a veteran of WWI having served in the US Army in France. He was a member of Charles Forrest Post 288, American Legion. Surviving with the widow are three sons, Charles of Tampa, Fla; Dean of Florissant, Mo and DeWayne of Rapids City, SD. Burial will be Saturday afternoon in Veedersburg.
