Charles E. Helms 62 of 116 N Kansas Ave , Danville, passed away at 12:05 a.m. Thursday March 18, 1993 in his home. He was born June 3, 1930 in Sterling to Charlie and Gladys Dobbs Helms. He was married in Veedersburg March 6, 1955 to Betty J. Todd. She survives. He is also survived by his mother, Gladys Helms of Veedersburg; two daughters, Mrs. Terri (Scott) Greer of Loveland, Colo and Kathy J. Helms of Ft Collins, Colo; three stepsons, Donald, William and Richard McFarland all of Richmond; a brother, Gerald D. Helms of Ft. Collins, Colo; two grandchildren, Gynda and Vance Greer, both of Loveland, Colo; 8 step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Carl Dean. Charles attended Sterling school and graduated from Veedersburg HS in 1948. He joined the US Air Force Dec 27, 1950 and retired with 24 years of service on Nov 1, 1974. While in the service, he and Betty resided in Ohio, Florida and Colorado, making their home in Illinois in 1990. Charles belonged to the American Legion Post 4 in Ft Collins, Colo. Due to ill health, he was unable to continue his membership in Illinois. Charles will be sadly missed by family and friends. Services were Monday at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Rev. Loren Stephens officiating. Interment at Rockfield Cemetery, Veedersburg.
