COVINGTON — Norma Jean (Bantz) Hegg, 77, died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2002 at her residence. She was born May 4, 1925 in Covington, the daughter of Nolin and Wreatha Clark Bantz. She married William C. Hegg, Sr., June 10, 1977. He preceded in death June 20, 1996. She was a life resident of Covington. She attended the Church of Christ. After graduating from Covington High School in 1943, she worked for Allison Division of General Motors for a year before attending the University of Illinois and graduating from Indiana State University. She did graduate studies at Butler, National College of Education, Bradley and Indiana State University. She worked summers in Chicago at University of Chicago; Marshall Fields and Carson, Prairie Scott & Co. She liked traveling and enjoyed many caring friends. She was an elementary teacher one year at Sadorus, Ill., one year at State Line and 36 years in the Danville Public Schools at Cannon, Edison, Northeast and Tilton, Ill. She retired in 1985 to travel the U.S.A. with her husband. She excelled and danced professionally in Chicago where she studied dance at the George and Agnes Gleeson School of Dance for 12 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Gravesite services were at 10 a.m. Friday in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington, with Randy Walters officiating. Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to the church or school of the donor's choice. – jlr
