COVINGTON, Ind. (CNS) -- Joseph Vernon Hegg, 72, a resident of Rileysburg 30 years and of the Covington area most of his life, died Tuesday (Jan. 12, 1971) at his home in Rileysburg. He had been ill four and a half years. Born March 3, 1898 in Covington, he was the son of Joseph and Lyda Hunter Hegg. He married Opal Boughner on May 7, 1923. He worked on railroads for 48 years and retired from the C&EI in 1966. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 754 in Danville, Ill., International Association of Machinists 172, vice president of the board of directors of the McBride Construction Co.; member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Covington, Old Rails and New Ties; and the United Transportation Union Local 0988. His hobbies were railroading and reading. Survivors include his widow; a son, James of West Lebanon; a daughter, Mrs. Carole McBride of State Line; and seven grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. EST Friday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev Donald Vernon officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Hegg Funeral Home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. --waw
