Attica—Mrs. Elizabeth E. “Betty” Haynes, 81, Route 2, Attica, died at 5:05 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 1989, in Comfort Retirement and Nursing Home, Lafayette.
She was born Sept. 12, 1907 in Riverside, the daughter of John and Eva R. Butt Schultz. She formerly lived in Independence and had resided at the nursing home since 1983. She was married June 1, 1927 to John M. Haynes, who survives.
She graduated from a high school in Missouri and was a clerk at Loeb’s Department Store in Lafayette for 10 years.
She helped organize the P.T.A. in Warren County schools and also helped organize the hot lunch program at the schools.
She was a member of Riverview United Methodist Church, West Lebanon Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, War Mothers of Williamsport, and Pythian sisters of Pine Village.
Surviving besides her husband, who resides at Country Care Nursing Center, Williamsport, are three children, Billy Sam Haynes, West Lafayette; John Allen Haynes, Route 4, Attica, and Brenda Sue Williams, Peoria, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. Edna Baisley, Fairview Heights, Ill.; two brothers, Clyde, Lafayette, and Richard, Route 2, Attica; 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one son.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Maus Funeral Home Chapel, Attica, with the Rev. Harold Varner officiating. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. Monday. -s
