William L. Hayes, who had operated a barber shop in Veedersburg the past 32 years, died at his home at 7 a.m. Sunday. Mr. Hayes had suffered a heart ailment for one year and his condition became serious one week ago. Mr. Hayes was born in Monroe County, Ky son of Taylor and Amanda Sims Hayes. He came to Indiana at age 7 and married on April 19, 1905 Margaret Gallaher of Veedersburg. Prior to moving to Veedersburg, Mr. Hayes operated a barber shop in Wingate 20 years. Surviving are his wife: three sons, Robert and Walter of Veedersburg, and Professor John Hayes of Lafayette, an instructor in engineering at Purdue University. Also surviving are two brothers, James of Frankfort and Virgil of Mellott; a sister, Mrs. Eva McGrew of Litchfield, Ky and four grandchildren. He was a 36-year member of the Masonic Lodge of Wingate. Funeral services were held Tuesday at J. Fred Parham Funeral Home with Rev. Fred Chelan officiating. Burial was in Green Lawn Cemetery at Wingate. = kbz
