ATTICA — William H. Hayes, 73, 316 Sleepy Lane, Attica, died in the Home Hospital, Lafayette, on Saturday, October 6, 2001, 4:04 a.m. He had been hospitalized for ten days. Hayes was born in Glasgow, Ky, on March 19, 1928. He was the son of George Willis and Emma Effie Witty Hayes. Bill was raised and educated in Glasgow. Mr. Hayes had lived in Greencastle and had resided in Attica most of his life. Bill was a foreman in the core room of Harrison Steel Castings Company in Attica. He worked for 22 years at Harrison Steel and retired in 1990. Bill also did farm labor for Claude Stucker and later for August and Bill Schmid. He loved to fish. Hayes married Norma J. (Fenters) Williams on August 2, 1968 in Attica. She survives. Also surviving are a son, James (Sharon) Williams, West Lafayette; a daughter, Marcia (Michael) McNelley, Poway, Calif.; five grandchildren, William, Marc, Kimberly and Ryan Hayes, all of Terre Haute; Sean McNelley, Bloomington; three great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Laura Hayes, Terre Haute and a nephew Larry Gilley of Wabash. He was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Hayes, two brothers and two sisters. Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on October 9 from 1 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m. with Rev. G. Scott Pattison officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Attica. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. – jlr
