John Estel Hay, age 57, of Danville, Ill., a native of the Gessie area, was dead on arrival at Lake View Memorial Hospital, Danville, at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, after being stricken ill at work. He had been in ill health two years. He had resided in Danville 17 years. Mr. Hay was born April 3, 1909 at Gessie, the son of John W. and Hattie Hines Hay. He was married June 28, 1926, to Hazel Booe, who survives. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Danville and the Modern Woodmen of Gessie. His schooling was at Gessie. He had been a maintenance of way employee of the C&EI Railroad for 38 years. Surviving, in addition to the wife, are: one daughter, Mrs. Pat Woodard of Danville; one brother, Audra Hay of Perrysville; two sisters, Mrs. Marvel Hines of Gessie and Mrs. Merle Smith of Danville, and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in Covington. The Rev. Robert Dorow officiated and burial was in the Niccum Cemetery.  --typed by Walt W
