Covington – Lucile Welch Hatton, 83, Covington, died at 9:45 p.m. April 7., 1994 at Community Hospital, Williamsport. She was born May 22, 1910 in Stone Bluff, the daughter of Charles Victor and Rebecca Anne Huffer Welch. She married James J. Hatton, March 1, 1936 in Covington. He preceded in death Dec 10, 1983. She lived in Danville, Ill before moving to Covington. She was a school teacher in the public schools, teaching the upper six grades at Jackson Heights near Lafayette. She also taught English at Henning HS before teaching in the junior high departments at Collett and Garfield schools before teaching at Roselawn in Danville, Ill. She was a member of the Covington United Methodist Church. She graduated from Covington HS and received her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University. At one time, she was an assistant librarian at the Covington Public Library. She was a former coordinator of audio-visual educational facilities at Roselawn. She also was the building’s librarian and was in charge of the Georgia Elberson Memorial Library, sponsored by the Parent-Teacher Association at Roselawn. She was a former teach in the primary department of the Covington Methodist Church Sunday School, a member of Troy Chapter OES and was active in the American Association of University Women. Surviving are: a sister, Helen Painter, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; and three nieces, Nancy Elliott, Marco Island, Fla; Martha Jo Halt, Florida; Andrea Pitman, Colorado Springs, Colo. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington with Rev. Allen Phillips officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington – kbz
